DESCRIPTION:

This is the superb Russian television recording of the entire spectacular Great Consecration of the newly-completed upper church of Christ the Savior Cathedral, located on the Moskva River, near Moscow’s Kremlin. It is the jubilant and unforgettable event-of-the-century in the life of the Church of Russia and the city of Moscow, and for all Orthodox people everywhere, as well as for all lovers of the Russian Orthodox Faith and Russian culture. The reconstruction of Russia’s most important church, blown up by Stalin in 1931, is an vital symbol of the resurrection of the Orthodox Faith in Russia.

Watching this fascinating video-set of the day's celebrations allows the viewer to participate in the totally awesome, not-to-be-missed, once-in-a-lifetime experience. Not only do you have the opportunity to be present vicariously at the Divine Services, but you can see the incredible splendor of the upper church of the ‘Great Church of Russia.’ Joining Patriarch Aleksei II of Russia are all the other Patriarchs and Heads of Autocephalous and Autonomous Orthodox Churches (or their representatives), plus hundreds of bishops, and countless archimandrites, priests, nuns, monks, seminarians, chief government officials, and thousands of lay people, with many more thousands of people outside, intently listening to the Services over the loud-speaker system. There are three magnificent choirs singing: the choir of the Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra Monastery and Seminary; a choir of nuns; and a choir in the sanctuary. Plus, a children's choir sings at the end of the procession with the relics around the cathedral. There are many cameras in different locations, including several inside the sanctuary that show all the details of the totally awesome and fascinating rite of the consecration of a new altar.

This video recording, produced for the Moscow Patriarchate, is of the highest technical quality. There is an off-camera television commentator who explains many aspects of what is occurring, but if you don’t know Russian, you can concentrate on watching and listening to the magnificent Divine Services in the most splendid Orthodox church in the world. The television film crew indeed do justice to this mind-boggling event-of-the-century, and the glorious miracle of the resurrection from ashes of the Great Church of Russia. (For an excellent history of the cathedral in English, see our new English voice-over of The Great Church of Russia, VE-19.)
