[#3 in A TREASURY  OF ORTHODOX CHRISTIAN PRAYERS, Vol. 1, #A-2]

 DESCRIPTION:

Prayer is the heart and center of the spiritual life, and any desire to know God, to be conformed to the Image of Christ, and to "acquire the Holy Spirit," must be rooted in prayer.

These two magnificent Akathists (an Akathist is an extended hymn-prayer in 13 sections, with refrains), deserve to be better known. They can be helpful when wrestling with sickness, sorrow, discouragement, as well as to express joy and thanksgiving.

On Side 1 is the exquisite Akathist: Glory to God For All Things, which was composed in prison camp in 1940 by Archpriest Gregory Petrov, just before his death. The most incredible testament to a life of faith, this Akathist is a magnificent hymn of praise for all God's wondrous blessings, in the midst of unspeakable suffering. It is sure to move the listener to greater depths and heights of knowledge of and communion with the Lord.

On Side 2, the Akathist to the Resurrection of Christ is a beautiful meditation on the meaning of Christ’s Resurrection, which can keep the vitality of Pascha alive throughout the year.  Both of these prayer-hymns are eloquent guides for us, teaching us both how to pray and the content of our Faith.

This cassette is packaged in the customary way - in a clear, hard-plastic box, with a beige "J" card with an icon of the Resurrection of Christ on the cover, and notes on the inside flap.

As with all these audio recordings of prayers, this cassette is ideal for commuters, the sight-impaired, sick, elderly, home-bound, and for anyone who wishes to bring more prayer into his or her life.
