II. VIDEOS OF DIVINE SERVICES IN RUSSIA
DESCRIPTION:
This video shows excerpts of the Divine Liturgy at the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Theophany in Moscow. It offers an interesting comparison with the Divine Services in the more "provincial" Voronezh (#16), with the greater spectacle of the Millennium Services at the same cathedral (#15), and with the dynamic intensity of the country church (#13). The architecture, huge gilded iconostasis and all the church "furnishings" are quite spectacular, as are the beautiful tomb of St. Aleksei (Alexis), Metropolitan of Moscow, and the revered wonder-working icon of the Kazan Mother of God.
The Service is sung by antiphonal choirs in the north and south balconies, and is videotaped from different vantage points across the very high west balcony, which allows for viewing the liturgical action from above.
